Oh Ye-jin won silver medals in the women’s team and individual events at her first Asian Games.
The individual final was a close contest decided by the last arrow, and Korean women’s recurve also recorded the tournament’s first “no gold” finish.
Rather than viewing it only as a disappointing result, it is worth examining how the momentum changed in the final.
3-Line Summary
1. Oh Ye-jin won silver medals in the individual and team events
2. The final shoot-off was decided by 8 points and 10 points
3. The result of one arrow does not erase the entire match
Two 30-Point Sets After a 5-3 Lead
On October 3, Oh Ye-jin faced India’s Kumkum Anil Mohod in the women’s recurve individual final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held at the multipurpose field of Okazaki Central General Park in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. In recurve, each athlete shoots three arrows per set, earning 2 points for winning a set and 1 point for tying.
The early momentum belonged to Oh Ye-jin. She took the first set 29-27, then tied the second set 29-29 to make the set score 3-1. In the third set, Mohod shot 10 points with all three arrows, recording 30 points, and the match was tied 3-3.
Oh Ye-jin won the fourth set 28-27 to take a 5-3 lead again. Even a tie in the final set would have been enough for the gold medal. However, Mohod shot another 30 points, while Oh Ye-jin managed 28 points, bringing the set score to 5-5. The clearest moment of this final was that even after taking the lead, one perfect set from her opponent could return the contest to square one.
The Last Arrow and Two Silver Medals
In the shoot-off that followed the tie, Oh Ye-jin’s arrow, shot first, landed for 8 points, while Mohod recorded 10 points. According to Yonhap News Agency and SBS reports, that one arrow decided the winner of the women’s individual gold medal.
The previous day, Oh Ye-jin also won a silver medal in the women’s team event with Kang Chae-young and Lee Yun-ji. She therefore finished this tournament with two silver medals. In the individual quarterfinals, she defeated Taiwan’s Hsu Hsin-tzu 6-4 on set points to advance to the semifinals, then reached the final and challenged for the gold medal to the end.
This result became a record that will remain not only in her individual performance but also in Korean women’s recurve. Yonhap News Agency and SBS reported that this was the first time Korean women’s archery had finished an Asian Games recurve competition without a gold medal. It was the result of being outperformed by India in both the team and individual events.
After the match, Oh Ye-jin said, “It is disappointing that an opportunity came but I couldn’t take advantage of it,” adding, “I will grow as much as it hurts.” The fact that she experienced a shoot-off in the final at her first Asian Games and the regret over the last arrow remain together.
