Samsung Electronics Stock Recovers to the 270,000-Won Level, Trades in the 280,000-Won Range Intraday… Semiconductor Exports and Trading Flows Must Be Viewed Together

Samsung Electronics closed at 27만4,000 won on the Korea Exchange on September 21, recovering the 270,000-won level.

On the morning of the 22nd, it traded in the 280,000-won range, extending the previous day’s strong momentum.

This movement can be read as the result of overlapping semiconductor export indicators, trends in U.S. semiconductor stocks, and stock-specific trading flows.

3-Line Summary
1. Samsung Electronics closed at 27만4,000 won on the 21st.
2. It rose to 28만750 won on the morning of the 22nd.
3. Index-level trading flows and Samsung Electronics’ trading flows must be distinguished.

Up 4.98% on the 21st, Recovering the 270,000-Won Level for the First Time in 10 Trading Days

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Electronics closed at 27만4,000 won on the Korea Exchange on September 21, up 4.98% from the previous trading day. It was the first time in 10 trading days that the closing price exceeded 270,000 won, since the 7th of this month. Intraday, it rose as high as 27만5,000 won.

Samsung Electronics was not the only stock to rise that day. Yonhap News Agency reported that major U.S. semiconductor stocks, including Nvidia, Broadcom, AMD, and Micron, showed strength, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index also rose for a second consecutive day. This can be viewed as a flow in which overseas semiconductor stocks influenced large domestic semiconductor stocks as well.

Domestic indicators were also released. Based on preliminary customs-clearance data from the Korea Customs Service for September 1–20, semiconductor exports were recorded at 341억2,000만 dollars, up 259.4% from the same period a year earlier. Total exports during the same period amounted to 714억 dollars. Stock prices are not determined by a single export figure, but this is a performance-related indicator worth referencing when the market assesses semiconductor industry conditions.

9:10 a.m. on the 22nd, Trading at 28만750 Won

Global Economic reported that at 9:10 a.m. on the 22nd, Samsung Electronics was trading at 28만750 won, up 2.46% from the previous trading day. Compared with the September 21 closing price of 27만4,000 won, this means the previous day’s upward momentum continued in the early trading session as well.

The report cited strength in U.S. AI and semiconductor stocks overnight, along with declines in international oil prices and U.S. Treasury yields, as the backdrop. However, intraday prices change according to trading hours, so the morning figure cannot be regarded as the confirmed price for that day. This is why closing and intraday prices should be viewed separately.

Foreign Investors Were Net Sellers Across the Market but Net Buyers of Samsung Electronics

Yonhap News Agency calculated that across the Korea Exchange on the 21st, individuals and foreign investors were net sellers of 2조9,789억원 and 1,602억원, respectively, while institutions were net buyers of 1조4,923억원. Looking only at foreign investors’ trading across the entire market, selling predominated.

By contrast, foreign investors were net buyers of Samsung Electronics by 1조715억원. On the same day, foreign investors were net sellers of SK hynix by 8,121억원, showing that trading flows diverged even among large semiconductor stocks. This makes it difficult to interpret overall KOSPI trading flows as the trading flows of Samsung Electronics alone.

Daishin Securities maintained its target price of 56만원 for Samsung Electronics and its buy recommendation, citing memory demand and improving competitiveness in high-bandwidth memory (HBM). This is a securities-firm forecast and does not establish future stock prices or earnings. The figures to watch in this movement are the confirmed closing price on the 21st, the intraday price on the 22nd, and the trading flows that diverged between the market as a whole and individual stocks.
