Seoul City announced on the 18th that it had opened the "Munjeong Exercise Garden" on an L-shaped site of 1만8772㎡ around Exit 3 of Munjeong Station. This space is divided into four areas: a multipurpose exercise space, an indoor exercise space, a garden-style rest area, and a culture-style rest area. A running track connects all four spaces, allowing visitors to jog or walk lightly. The distinctive feature of this project is transforming the area around the station—which had been merely a passage—into a space for exercise in daily life.
From Futsal to Pickleball, and Table Tennis and Yoga Indoors
The multipurpose exercise space features courts for futsal and basketball, as well as badminton and pickleball courts. Nearby are also areas for stretching and warm-up exercises. In the roofed indoor exercise space, visitors can play table tennis, and exercise programs such as yoga and line dancing are operated. By placing both indoor and outdoor spaces together, the facility allows people to exercise without being greatly constrained by weather or time.
A Cultural Space with a Large Screen Has Also Been Installed
The garden-style rest area features a small forest and rest facilities where visitors can take a break between exercises. The open plaza at the center has been designed as a culture-style rest area, equipped with a large LED screen measuring 16m wide by 4.8m tall and a system that allows real-time viewing of performances from a performance venue. Seoul City announced plans to connect this space to the Seoul Arena—a K-pop concert venue scheduled to open in Changdong, Dobong-gu in the first half of next year—through a dedicated network. Until the concert venue opens, the space will showcase sports game broadcasts, performance videos, and local event content.
The Third "Fun Station" Following the Yeouido Naru Runner Station
The Munjeong Exercise Garden is part of Seoul City's subway innovation project called "Fun Station." Starting with the opening of the "Runner Station" at Yeouido Naru Station in 2024, Fun Stations have also been established at Ttukseum Station and Meokgol Station, and last month, the "K-culture Station" opened in a space beneath Seoul City Hall that had been vacant for over 40 years. Seoul City announced plans to open Fun Stations at Sinmokdong Station and Mongchon Toseong Station by the end of this year, highlighting local characteristics—though this is still a plan announced by Seoul City and not yet a confirmed opening date. The opening ceremony was attended by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Seoul City ambassador Sim Eun-tteum, among others. Mayor Oh stated, "It is important to create a city where each and every citizen can walk, run, and move their body more frequently in their daily lives."
Operating Hours and Inquiries
The Munjeong Exercise Garden can be used from 9 a.m. to 7:50 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. on Saturdays. Facility reservations can be made at the office next to the multipurpose court or by phone (02-400-0825). Operations are managed by Seoul YMCA.
