Seven Eleven Competes on “Basics” with Fresh Cream Bread Containing 45% Cream

Seven Eleven introduced two types of fresh cream bread using Maeil Dairies’ “Digestive Milk” on September 13.

The focus of these products is the quantity and texture of the cream rather than an unfamiliar combination.

This aligns with a trend in which convenience-store desserts compete for repeat purchases through ingredients and texture, moving beyond products driven primarily by buzz.

3-line summary
1. Seven Eleven released two types of fresh cream bread
2. Cream accounts for 45% of the total weight
3. Two types of mochi rolls are also planned for release on the 18th

Milk and Chocolate Fresh Cream Bread with Higher Cream Content

Seven Eleven announced that it would introduce “Digestive Milk Milk Fresh Cream Bread” and “Digestive Milk Chocolate Fresh Cream Bread,” using Maeil Dairies’ Digestive Milk. According to a Yonhap News report, Seven Eleven explained that it collaborated with a manufacturer equipped with baking facilities and increased the proportion of cream to 45% of the products’ total weight.

Compared with the existing product “Puhaha Salted Milk Cream Bread,” the Milk Fresh Cream Bread increased the proportion of dairy-based fresh cream by approximately 129%. The Chocolate Fresh Cream Bread increased its fresh cream content by 330% compared with the existing product. Rather than emphasizing new flavors in the bread, both products focus on how much cream to include and what texture consumers will experience.

Seven Eleven’s Hee-joo Seo, the dessert MD in the Ready-to-Eat Foods Team, said the company strengthened the flavors of the cream and bread to match consumer demand for convenience-store desserts with specialty-store-level taste and quality. This explains the company’s product-planning direction and does not mean that consumer evaluations or sales performance have been confirmed.

Repeat-Purchase Competition Growing Alongside “Trend Products”

In the convenience-store dessert market, products driven by buzz, such as dubbonku and butter tteok, are appearing, while competition also continues to improve the quality of familiar ingredients such as milk, cream, and bread. A Herald Economy report identified this as part of a movement to drive repeat purchases through products with improved ingredients and manufacturing methods.

Emart24 released fresh cream bread made with domestic dairy cream, as well as processed milk with its raw-milk content raised to 70%. Sales of the fresh cream bread reportedly increased 23% during the two weeks from August 24 to September 6 compared with the preceding week. However, this figure is a sales example for an Emart24 product and does not demonstrate the performance of Seven Eleven’s new products.

Seven Eleven’s products stand out in this competition because they specifically present the cream proportion and fresh cream content. Rather than saying simply that they contain “a lot,” the products establish points of comparison for consumers by presenting benchmarks of 45%, 129%, and 330%.

Two More Types of Mochi Rolls Planned for the 18th

Seven Eleven announced that it plans to additionally release “Digestive Milk Milk Mochi Roll” and “Digestive Milk Chocolate Mochi Roll” on September 18. This is a plan to expand the product range from fresh cream bread to mochi rolls.

What matters to consumers is not whether a dessert carries a trendy label, but whether the product they choose emphasizes cream flavor or bread texture. These new products place that criterion on cream content and the use of ingredients.
