LG Twins pitcher Jang Hyun-sik has pitched without allowing a run in three consecutive Futures League games since his elbow injury.
On September 13, against Sangmu at Icheon LG Champions Park, he completed two innings without allowing a hit or a run.
However, LG manager Yeom Kyoung-yeop said the previous day that Jang’s pitching needed to be observed further before he could be added to the first-team roster.
3-Line Summary
1. Jang Hyun-sik has pitched 3 scoreless Futures League games
2. 2 scoreless innings against Sangmu on the 13th
3. The timing of his return to the first team has not yet been finalized
A 6th Inning Finished with Three First-Pitch Outs, Followed by a Scoreless 7th
Jang Hyun-sik entered in relief in the Futures League game against Sangmu at Icheon LG Champions Park on the 13th and recorded 2 hitless, scoreless innings. Taking the mound in the 6th inning with LG leading 4-2, he retired all three of the first batters on their first pitches and ended the inning with a three-up, three-down sequence. Lee Yul-ye and Lee Seung-hyun were retired on fly balls, while Park Kwan-woo grounded out to the first baseman.
In the 7th, he struck out leadoff hitter Park Ji-hwan swinging. A runner reached when third baseman Song Seong-woo committed a throwing error on Jang Jae-young’s grounder, but Jang Hyun-sik avoided allowing a run by having Kang Seong-woo grounded into a shortstop-to-first double play. He did not allow a hit over the two innings, and his official result that day was a hold.
This appearance stands out not simply because it added another scoreless outing, but because his workload increased. Jang Hyun-sik had thrown one inning in each of his previous two Futures League appearances, whereas he completed two innings against Sangmu. However, it is still too early to definitively determine his role or return timing with the first team based on the result of just one game.
Third Competitive Appearance Since His Elbow Absence
Jang Hyun-sik has been appearing in Futures League games after completing rehabilitation following an elbow flexor injury that sidelined him at the end of July. Against SSG on September 6, he retired the side in order over 1 inning, and against Doosan on the 10th, he allowed two walks over 1 inning but did not allow a run. Through the Sangmu game on the 13th, he has gone 3 consecutive games without allowing a run.
There has been no announcement yet regarding whether he will return to the first team. According to an OSEN report, manager Yeom Kyoung-yeop said before the Samsung game on the 12th that he had heard Jang’s pitches were not good and that he needed to watch Jang throw 1 or 2 more games in the second team. Jang had been expected to return at the time, but he was not added to the first-team roster.
Therefore, it is more accurate to view this 2-inning scoreless outing as a result of Jang regaining his competitive feel after the injury rather than as a record confirming his return. Along with the fact that he has not allowed a run in all 3 games, the next point of interest is whether the quality of his pitching will lead to LG’s decision to add him to the first-team roster.
