Taiwan’s Double Ninth Festival Elderly Benefit: Amounts Vary by Region and Age

Taichung City began distributing its Double Ninth Festival elderly benefit on September 30.

Ahead of the same Double Ninth Festival, Luodong Township separately delivered benefits on September 29 to 16 residents aged 100 and older.

A one-line notice such as “those aged 65 and older receive a certain amount” is not enough to determine who actually qualifies or how to collect the benefit.

3-Line Summary
1. Taichung City began distributing the benefit on September 30.
2. Eligible recipients aged 65–89 receive 2,000 New Taiwan dollars (2000 New Taiwan dollars).
3. The amount received depends on age and the date of household registration.

In Taichung City, the Household Registration Cutoff Date Must Also Be Confirmed

Taichung City’s 2026 Double Ninth Festival elderly benefit was distributed beginning September 30. According to reports, eligible recipients are residents aged 65 and older, while a separate standard applies to Indigenous residents aged 55 and older. Residents must also have completed household registration in Taichung City before August 27, 2026.

The payment for general recipients is divided by age. Those aged 65–89 receive 2,000 New Taiwan dollars, those aged 90–94 receive 3,000 New Taiwan dollars, and those aged 95–99 receive 5,000 New Taiwan dollars. Those aged 100 and older receive 1만 New Taiwan dollars. The program may appear substantial when looking only at the maximum amount, but that amount should be distinguished from the amounts applicable to most general age groups.

The Schedules Differ for Account Deposits and Cash Collection

Recipients who applied in advance for an account deposit can receive the payment in their designated accounts on September 30, the first day of distribution. Recipients collecting cash must do so from September 30 through October 19 according to instructions from the district office with jurisdiction over their place of residence; reports said that the original identification document and a seal are required.

Supplementary collection for those who were unable to receive the payment within the designated period is available through November 30. It is necessary to confirm not only whether one is eligible, but also which method of receipt one selected or registered.

Luodong Township Delivered 2만2,000 New Taiwan Dollars to 16 Residents Aged 100 and Older

In Luodong Township, Yilan County, Township Chief Wu Chuling visited 16 residents aged 100 and older on September 29 and delivered 2만2,000 New Taiwan dollars and gifts of pork trotter noodles to each of them. The area’s oldest resident was introduced as 105-year-old Ms. Wu Huochun.

The Luodong Township Farmers’ Association said that approximately 1만4,900 residents aged 65 and older are eligible for this year’s elderly benefit. Among them, residents aged 65–89 who completed the account-deposit procedure by September 11 are scheduled to receive their deposits on October 5. Meanwhile, the township chief was reported to have personally delivered the benefits to residents aged 90–99 and those aged 100 and older who did not apply for account deposits.

The amounts, household-registration requirements, and payment methods for Double Ninth Festival elderly benefits differ by region. Therefore, it is difficult to apply Taichung City’s age-based amounts or Luodong Township’s support for residents aged 100 and older as standards in other regions.
