Taiwan’s Bureau of Labor Insurance is scheduled to pay National Pension Insurance maternity benefits and other benefits on September 24.
Reports have also said that the maternity benefit is 10만 Taiwan dollars, but this differs from the calculations in the two reports based on the monthly insured amount.
The key point to check this time is not the “maximum amount,” but the contribution period and the benefit formula actually applied.
3-Line Summary
1. The National Pension maternity benefit is 4만2,206 dollars.
2. The monthly insured amount is 2만1,103 dollars.
3. Reports of a 10만-dollar benefit use conflicting formulas.
Two Months of the Insured Amount Paid for Childbirth or Premature Birth
Taiwan’s National Pension Insurance is a system under which, when a female insured person gives birth or has a premature birth during a period in which her insurance coverage is effective, two months of the monthly insured amount is paid at once as a maternity benefit. According to reports by Yahoo News and Mirror Media, the monthly insured amount rose from 1만9,761 Taiwan dollars to 2만1,103 Taiwan dollars as of January 1, 2026.
Accordingly, for a singleton birth, the maternity benefit increased from approximately 3만9,522 Taiwan dollars to 4만2,206 Taiwan dollars. For twins or other multiple births, the benefit increases in proportion to the number of fetuses. An application must be filed within 5 years of the day after childbirth or premature birth; if the deadline is missed, payment may not be made.
Mirror Media also reported a provision stating that even if a person loses eligibility after becoming pregnant while insured, she may file a claim if she gives birth or has a premature birth within 1 year from the same pregnancy and has not received a maternity benefit from another social insurance program. This is why one must consider both insurance status and whether other benefits have been received, rather than judging by the amount alone.
Why Reports of a “10만-Dollar Singleton Benefit” Do Not Match the Calculation
NOWnews reported that the maternity benefit for a singleton birth is 10만 Taiwan dollars. However, the same article also explained that this amount combines the multiple-birth benefit with additional local-government subsidies. By contrast, Yahoo News and Mirror Media wrote that the amount is 4만2,206 Taiwan dollars, applying two months of the increased monthly insured amount.
Therefore, when confirming the maternity benefit under National Pension Insurance itself, the applicable formula is two months of the insured amount. Whether local-government subsidies are actually added and to which recipients they apply cannot be determined solely on the basis of the evidence reviewed here.
Three National Pension Payments Scheduled for September 24
The items introduced as scheduled for payment on September 24 in the Bureau of Labor Insurance’s schedule are the National Pension Insurance maternity benefit, the Old-Age Basic Guaranteed Pension, and the Indigenous Peoples’ benefit. The Old-Age Basic Guaranteed Pension and the Indigenous Peoples’ benefit were each listed as 4,049 Taiwan dollars per month.
The Old-Age Basic Guaranteed Pension is intended for people born before October 1, 1932, who meet conditions such as residing in Taiwan. The Indigenous Peoples’ benefit was reported to be for eligible people aged 55 to 64 who have household registration in Taiwan. Because both benefits have separate eligibility requirements, they should not be understood as the same program as the maternity benefit increase.
