Memory semiconductor company Micron Technology (Micron) announced a compensation plan for its Taiwan employees.
The eye-catching figure is 100 million Taiwan dollars, but this amount is not paid to every employee under the same conditions.
This plan must be read by considering one-time cash payments, performance bonuses, and stock compensation together.
3-Line Summary
1. Micron announced a compensation plan for its Taiwan employees
2. Appreciation payments vary depending on the employee’s joining date
3. Cash, performance bonuses, and stock compensation must be considered separately
Employees Who Joined Before 2025년 8월 29일 Are Eligible
On 11, Micron announced a plan to provide FY26 compensation for more than 60,000 employees worldwide in fiscal year 2026. The company described it as the highest compensation in its history. According to ETtoday Finance Cloud, the plan in Taiwan includes a 1-million-Taiwan-dollar appreciation cash bonus per employee for those who joined before 2025년 8월 29일.
This appreciation payment cannot be viewed as a uniform base-pay increase applied under the same conditions to all employees in Taiwan. Micron explained that employees who joined in FY26 would receive the appreciation payment in proportion to their actual period of employment. Employees who joined before the cutoff date and those who joined during the fiscal year are subject to different calculation methods even under the same appreciation-payment category.
In addition to the cash appreciation payment, the compensation plan includes annual performance bonuses and stock compensation. The company said that annual performance bonuses could reach up to 500% of the basic target. The expression “up to” does not mean the actual amount paid to an individual employee, and the details reported do not make it possible to determine the size of performance bonuses by role or individual performance.
Stock Compensation Is Also Included in 35~68 Months of Production-Line Pay
Micron presented the total compensation for Taiwan production-line employees as equivalent to 35 to 68 months of salary. This figure is based on total compensation that includes not only the cash appreciation payment but also performance bonuses and additional stock compensation. It does not mean that production-line employees’ monthly salaries uniformly change from 35 months’ worth to 68 months’ worth.
The company said that FY26 cash compensation for Taiwan employees starts at 170 million Taiwan dollars. It presented average cash compensation for junior engineers as 290 million Taiwan dollars and average total compensation, including stock compensation measured at grant value, as 340 million Taiwan dollars. The average figures do not directly represent the compensation level of every individual in the job category.
The difference between 290 million Taiwan dollars in cash compensation and 340 million Taiwan dollars in total compensation results from including stock compensation. Accordingly, the 340 million Taiwan-dollar figure presented in the article should be understood as a total compensation amount combining cash and stock compensation, rather than an amount paid immediately in cash.
Applying Stock Compensation to All Employees Is the Company’s Stated Direction
Micron said it would apply stock compensation based on annual performance adjustments at 100%, allowing all employees to become company shareholders. The company explained that this is not merely a system of paying cash bonuses, but a way of linking employees to the company’s long-term performance and stock value.
However, this describes the compensation structure and operating direction announced by Micron. It does not mean that the number or timing of shares actually granted to each employee, or the value of those shares, will be identical. When reviewing this compensation plan, it is important to distinguish the criteria associated with the cash appreciation payment, performance bonuses, and stock compensation.
Micron defined Taiwan as a core hub for global technological leadership. According to the company’s announcement, Taiwan has approximately 1만5,000 employees, including 5000, and cumulative investment exceeds 1조6,000 Taiwan dollars, including 6000. The company also said it would continue supporting talent, innovation, and manufacturing capabilities.
The compensation condition presented as confirmed in this announcement is the appreciation payment determined by the cutoff date and period of employment. By contrast, continued investment in Taiwan talent and manufacturing capabilities, as well as sharing in employees’ long-term success, are future directions stated by the company. Rather than looking only at the figure of 100 million Taiwan dollars, it is necessary to review the eligibility criteria and compensation components together to avoid overlooking the scope of the announcement.
