Umi Construction announced on September 23 that it had donated 3천만원 to the Jeonju Welfare Foundation to support crisis-affected households in the Jeonju area. The delivery ceremony was held at Jeonju City Hall on September 21, with Umi Construction CEO Kim Young-gil and Jeonju Mayor Cho Ji-hoon among those in attendance.
The donation is expected to be used for the People-Centered Welfare Safety Net Establishment Project operated by the Jeonju Welfare Foundation. The project is designed to quickly provide living expenses and caregiving expenses to households whose livelihoods have become difficult because of sudden accidents or illness.
Eligible recipients include low-income children and adolescents, people with disabilities, single-parent households, and crisis-affected households. More important than the amount delivered itself is that it was allocated to a project addressing both the living expenses and caregiving burden of households facing a crisis.
Support Is Determined After Review Even if Applicants Meet the Eligibility Criteria
The Jeonju Welfare Foundation’s Allocation Review Committee will review applicants’ income and assets, the urgency of their need for support, and whether support overlaps with other assistance before disbursing the funds. Therefore, experiencing difficulties because of an accident or illness does not mean that support from the donation is immediately confirmed.
In particular, living expenses and caregiving expenses are categories for which the circumstances requiring assistance may differ even within the same household. The foundation said it would consider these individual circumstances together with whether the household is already receiving support. The donation has been fully delivered, but the amount each household actually receives and the category under which it is provided will vary according to the review results.
Umi Construction said it would continue its role of looking after neighbors facing difficulties in the community and growing together with the communities where it operates. The company’s statement concerns its future plans, while the confirmed result this time is the fact that 3천만원 was donated to the Jeonju Welfare Foundation.
This Was a Separate Event from the Jeonju Battalion Relocation Project
Earlier the same day, Jeonju City Hall also hosted a ceremony for an amended agreement on private-sector investment and implementation for the Jeonju Battalion relocation and site development project. Representatives of Umi Construction, Cheonma Development, and Janghan General Construction, among others, attended the ceremony, and reports said that the project operator’s status had been confirmed.
Umi Construction was introduced as the largest investor, holding 90% of the shares in Cheonma Development, the special-purpose company implementing the project. However, the site development project and this donation were separate matters conducted at Jeonju City Hall on the same day. Regarding support for crisis-affected households, the facts to confirm are that the donation was allocated to the welfare safety net establishment project and that individual support is provided after review by the foundation.
