From this starting point, what Moon Jae has had taken cannot be explained solely as property or social status. The time he lived under his own name and even the way others recognize him are thrown into question. The Voice Heard Before the Lens and the Mole
The method of distinguishing the two characters was designed not to be made conspicuous. Ryu Jun-yeol said he wanted to create small differences that could be discovered upon close observation, rather than making two people who were obviously different. He explained that when playing Vole, he used contact lenses that made a mole visible in the eye, while for Moon Jae, he kept the mole on his original face. The texture of the hairstyle, eyebrows, and ears were also used to create differences.
But the clue that remained the longest as the images passed was the voice. The possibility of mechanically blending the voices of Ryu Jun-yeol and Park Yun-ho was also considered. Director Kim Hong-sun said he tested ratios such as 5-to-5 and 6-to-4, but ultimately chose 100% of Ryu Jun-yeol’s voice. No-ja Speaks His Own Words to Moon Jae
Played by Sol Kyung-gu, No-ja is a loan shark trying to recover Moon Jae’s money. Sol Kyung-gu said he had heard that No-ja in the original work meets his death, but explained that in the drama, No-ja’s meaning was expanded in a different way. He also said he wanted to portray No-ja as a human being who is empty and has openings, rather than someone weighty.
That interpretation emerges in the words No-ja gives Moon Jae. Sol Kyung-gu said it felt as though No-ja was conveying to Moon Jae the words he would say to himself. He added the interpretation that, although No-ja had committed evil acts, he may have had a desire to return to the person he was before them. No-ja remains both an ally who solves the case with Moon Jae and a character who illuminates Moon Jae’s confusion from another direction.
Sol Kyung-gu said “Vole” felt like a story connected to an era of advanced systems changing rapidly. His mention of the fear that comes when authentication and notarization, while convenient, collapse was the actor’s interpretation. 200만 Views and 4th Place Are Not the Same Number
The rankings showing interest in “Vole” are based on different methods of calculation. In Netflix’s global Top 10 non-English shows counted from August 24 through 30, it ranked 5th with 200만 views. These were results from the 3 days after its release on August 28, and the view count was reportedly calculated by dividing viewing time by the work’s total running time.
Reports citing FlixPatrol’s tally introduced it as 4th place in the global TV-show category, with a total score of 345 points and entry into the Top 10 in 60 countries. One is Netflix’s weekly non-English-show ranking, while the other is FlixPatrol’s TV-show ranking. Therefore, 200만 views and 345 points cannot be combined and described as though they were the same unit. Still, both reports confirm the trend of its appearing in the rankings of several countries immediately after release.
Reviews reportedly showed divided reactions to the early development, the pacing in the middle, and the twists and ending in the latter part. Rankings do not reduce the work’s reception to a single assessment. Even so, what “Vole” leaves behind is clear.
