The main details of her history revealed by the drama include graduating from the National University of Singapore in 2007, enlisting in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and passing its psychological warfare defense course, being assigned to Be’ban, and joining Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil company SOCAR in 2013. In this operation, she provides rear support while Nogi’s group heads into enemy territory.
In other words, a character who left a mysterious impression through only brief appearances has suddenly been given both a name and a career history. However, this history is, as far as it goes, a characterization within the work. Rather than information that definitively establishes her actions after episode 18, it is more appropriate to view it as a device explaining why she became connected to the Caucasus operation.
Rescuing Five Agents and the Role Added to Choki
Including spoilers, the central focus of episode 18 is the plan to rescue 5 Be’ban agents captured by Shinshi, a Chinese-linked underworld organization. Nogi, his stepbrother Nokoru, the unit of the private military company PMSC Y2K established by Tent, Choki, and Shinjo, whose survival has been revealed, gather for the operation.
The operation training also included a scene in which they passed through a passage fitted with infrared sensors. Choki used his flexibility to demonstrate the movements, and the radio program hosts even mentioned the character’s in-story settings: that he is a businessman who can pilot a private jet and has connections in several countries.
In episode 18, Choki expanded from a popular character into someone who fills various gaps in the operation. The reason the voice direction became controversial is also connected to this change. As a character’s role grows, what viewers expect is not merely a list of abilities, but whether the distinctive qualities that first made them like the character are preserved.
