3-Line Summary
1. Ana Elisa was elected to the Chamber of Deputies at 21.
2. She received 52만4,216 votes in Minas Gerais.
3. Her term is scheduled to begin in February 2027.

Divinópolis Native Receives 52만 Votes in Her First Election

Ana Elisa Santos Silva is from Divinópolis, in the west-central region of Minas Gerais, and ran for the Chamber of Deputies for the first time as a member of PT. According to G1, she received 52만4,216 votes in the October 4 election, the second-highest total among all Chamber of Deputies candidates in the state.

As a result, Ana Elisa became the youngest person ever elected to Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies. She also received the highest number of votes ever among female candidates in a Chamber of Deputies election in Minas Gerais. O TEMPO reported that she received the most votes among the state’s female candidates.

Her election is a confirmed result, but her actual work as a deputy has not yet begun. According to G1, her term is scheduled to begin in February 2027. The support she received in the election should be distinguished from her activity in Congress.

A Law Student Who Created Political Content

Ana Elisa studied law and worked as an intern at the Labor Court of Minas Gerais. Before running for office, she had been creating content about politics and law on Instagram, and G1 reported that her follower count had reached approximately 190만 around the election period. The account was later described as having 200만 followers.

The topics she covered included politics, social rights, racism, public education, feminism, and labor. The fact that her statements and content creation online were the foundation of her most important political activity represents a starting point different from that of an established political career. However, this does not mean that online influence automatically guarantees an election result. In this case, it was followed by a large vote total.

A Voice Calling for Generational Change in PT

In a pre-election interview with Folha de S.Paulo, Ana Elisa said that PT needed to show more of what it could look like for younger generations to see themselves in it. Her emphasis on expanding representation within and around the party and creating opportunities for youth participation in politics reflects her position as a candidate.

She said she received the invitation to run in March of that year. Although she had no previous experience in elected office, during the campaign she raised the political representation of young people, Black people, and women as key issues. PT Minas Gerais emphasized the visibility of female candidates and the party’s expanded representation in the results, but that is the party’s assessment.

The central point shown by Ana Elisa’s election is not her age itself, but the fact that a candidate who had consistently explained political issues online received voters’ support. Attention has now shifted away from her high vote total and toward what kind of legislative work she will carry out in the Chamber of Deputies.
